Keyfuels set to launch Fuel Cards in the Isles of Lewis, UK

Source: Keyfuels | Posted / Last update: 17-12-2009

The fuel card company is committed to offering fuel cards for the Island through its website

Pump prices for diesel in the Western Isles stand at 120.9 pence per litre (ppl) and these prices are some of the most expensive fuel prices in the entire UK. Having to pay so much for fuel is bound to impinge on the essential travel and affects the cost of business transportation also.

Which is why rural and island communities facing these extortionate costs are suffering, with fuel costs literally meaning the difference between being able to afford to travel to work – and not. High island fuel costs are often attributed to higher fuel taxes for remote and rural areas and the absence of healthy competition between fuel suppliers.

The situation was exacerbated last month when BP decided to cease the use of its fuel cards in petrol stations on the Isle of Lewis, meaning motorists benefiting from fixed weekly prices on fuel would suddenly be forced to pay pump prices, leading to their fuel costs soaring and, for many, increased financial difficulties.

However, The Fuelcard Company is here to help. Its sister company’s Keyfuels card arrives on the island on 18 December 2009, meaning motorists do not need to lose out for long and can once again benefit from lower prices for fuel.
