Following complaints from discount store operators in Cologne and Munich, Germany’s Federal Administrative Court has confirmed that new openings of discount stores are not allowed if they are likely to do substantial harm to long-established traditional food stores
The rule especially applies to small stores in residential areas, which often fulfil a central role in the neighbourhood supply of fast-moving consumer goods, according to the Court.
