Applegreen creates 300 new jobs
Around 300 new jobs are to be created with the opening of the country's first motorway service areas at three locations
The filling station company Applegreen are recruiting after landing contracts to operate the service areas in counties Dublin, Louth and Kildare. The service areas will feature Burger King and Costa Coffee restaurants, showers, rest areas, playgrounds, and fuel outlets.
Construction is in the final stages. The Lusk northbound site will be the first to open in early autumn. Sites at Castlebellingham and Enfield will follow.
Petrogas, the Irish firm that operates the Applegreen filling stations, recently reported that full-year profits plummeted to €1.7m last year from €5.4m in the previous year.
Applegreen is part of the SuperStop consortium, which was awarded a public private partnership contract by the National Roads Authority.
The announcement of the new jobs comes as reports over the weekend suggested that Eircom, Bank of Ireland and AIB are planning to lay off up to 4,000 workers.
