LOBLAW pilots hybrid fuel efficient truck
Canadian grocery retailer Loblaw is testing a truck run on hybrid fuel efficient technology. The Class 8 vehicle generates electricity whenever the driver applies the brake and this energy is used to help power the vehicle
The urban locations of many Loblaw stores mean braking regularly in traffic is inevitable, and these are the ideal conditions in which to test the truck. Depending on the success of the trial, Loblaw may use other hybrid trucks in future.
“The hybrid truck pilot is one of the many initiatives undertaken in our supply chain to meet our fuel economy goals for 2010. We believe we are on the right track to once again lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions associated with the transportation of goods to our stores," said Robert Wiebe, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain at Loblaw.
