Source: KPI | Posted / Last update: 23-01-2012

Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI), better known as brand Q8, is pleased with the success of start of operation of Europe's first sustainable filling station in Sweden which was a landmark in Q8's history, and the model is planned to be copied at all Q8 stations, the KPI Board Chairman said this Sunday

KPI Board Chairman and Managing Director Hussein Ismail said the sustainable station was inaugurated recently in a ceremony attended by the Kuwaiti Ambassador in Sweden Ali Al-Nukhailan, KPI Assistant Managing Director for Financial Affairs Yusef Al-Yeteem, and member of the KPI Owners Division Meshal Humoud Bushaibah.

Ismail said the station is powered by solar panels and uses rainwater for the carwash, and the rechargers for electrical cars will get part of their energy from the solar cells on the rooftop of the shop. He pointed out the station is now open to the public, and is operating smoothly, which further adds to Q8's reputation as a leader in innovation and sustainability. As early as 1985, he said, Q8 was the first company to launch unleaded fuel in Europe.

Al-Yeteem for his part said the company is rightfully proud to make the first initiative of launching a sustainable environment-friendly filling station in Europe.

Executive Chairman of OKQ8 Sweden Goran Lindbla added, "The sustainable filling station is our very own contribution to renew the industry. As an industry, we can do so much more than develop renewable fuels and environmentally friendly car products."

Features of this new filling station: the station is made of renewable materials, the roof contains both water collectors and solar panels, vegetation naturally insulating against heat and cold, smart high speed rechargers for electrical cars and electrical cars for rent, as well as reinforced grass at parking spots and roof coating which breaks down exhaust fumes with help from the sun.

In 2011 OKQ8 was nominated "Sweden's most sustainable fuel company" in the brand review "Sustainable Brands". The basis for the review is the 10 principles named in UN's Global Compact, which includes a company's environmental responsibility, human rights, industrial laws, and prevention of corruption.
