South Africa’s Engen fuel retailer gets into packaging business

Engen, a South Africa-based fuel retailer, said in February that it has partnered with logistics group UTi Distribution to roll out the country’s first UTi ByBox delivery terminals for parcel delivery “that solves delivery challenges as the country’s online shopping soars,” the company said in a press release.

Last update:

“When ordering online, shoppers simply select the ByBox delivery option to their nearest locker at selected Engen service stations,” said Greg Saffy, MD of UTi Distribution, as he explained how the system will work.

Parcels are dispatched the next day, and drivers scan them in at the selected ByBox terminal. The correct one opens automatically, and an SMS is sent to the customer with the delivery location and a PIN number to access the locker, Engen said. The system also allows shipping.

“Engen is excited to partner with UTI on this innovative initiative, which is the first of its kind in South Africa,” said Dumisani Bengu, retail business manager at Engen. “Together, we are bringing an alternative delivery solution to the South African market.”
