Brazilian fuel authority crack down on fuel stations in Bahia, Pernambuco, Minas Gerais

The Brazilian National Agency of Oil, Natural gas and Biofuels, known as ANP for its Portuguese acronym, described in May in two separate statements its efforts to crack down on fuel retail irregularities in the regions of Salvador, Bahia as well as Pernambuco and Minas Gerais.

Last update:

The agency said May 20 that during April 14-15 it carried out an operation with other authorities in Pernambuco detecting irregularities such as faulty or missing equipment (like lights in pumps not working) and taking appropriate actions.

In Minas Gerais, during April 13-17, there were similar inspection efforts and also fuel samples were collected for analysis.

As for Bahia, the efforts included inspections in Salvador where 56 stations and 261 fuel pumps were inspected. Two of those pumps were found supplying lower volumes of fuel than what was indicated.

Brazilian efforts to check fuel station in its huge territory can be a daunting task. For example Bahia has a total of 2,600 locations which sell fuel and need to be inspected. Including the latest inspection, a total of 520 fuel locations have been inspected since ANP operations started in 2013.
