US: Protesters against potential fuel tax increase meet at fuel station ‘to pay’ fuel taxes of drivers
A group of protesters organized an unusual event for May 13 in a fuel station in South Carolina where they offered to pay for the taxes on gasoline of drivers, according to a report by news agency AP published May 13.
The group, which met in Columbia, South Carolina, agreed to gather at a fuel station named El Cheapo where they were going to pay 45 cents taxes per gallon that drivers pay in addition to a 10 cent increase proposed by some lawmakers and which the group opposes, according to the information.
The State Senate is trying to debate a road funding bill June 4 which may lead to greater taxes on fuel.
