The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) is an agency which campaigns for health and safety across the UK.

The awards are open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas. The judging panel considers entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Phillips 66´s positive safety record includes completing 5,000 days without an employee injury and 1,000 days without contractor injury.

Russell Best, HSE Advisor at Phillips 66, said in statement: “As a growing energy manufacturing company delivering 1.6 billion litres of fuel annually, safety flows through our entire operation and is one of our core values (...). Our goal is to achieve a zero incident safety record”.

“Our Cross Contractor initiative – and the various activities that have stemmed from it – has been a resounding success (...). We believe this is the only such Cross Contractor example in the industry and everyone involved is reaping the benefits from this collaborative approach,” he added.

In 2013 the fuel retailer started the Cross Contractor programme to share safety knowledge between industry professionals and deliver safety innovations. After the development of various initiatives to counter risks, and carrying out more than 20 different actions to tackle safety issues, Phillips 66 has managed to lower their accident rates to all-time lows.

Phillip 66, headquartered in Houston, Texas, has 14,000 employees and had $49 billion in assets as of March 31, 2015.
