Agency demands Qatari government increases number of gas stations

Qatar's Central Municipal Council (CMC) has urged the government to review the number of petrol stations in the country and plan the constructions of new ones, as there is a demand for more fuel retailing points.

In the report, the CMC also ask the government not to demolish any existing gas stations. The agency believes there is a real shortage of fuel pumps as the number of cars on Qatari roads increases, reported Doha News.

The agency also questions the location of planned gas stations, as earlier this year the Qatar Fuel Company (Woqod) announced the opening of 12 new stations, with the majority of them being outside the capital, in areas of low population density.

According to the agency, the limited number of gas stations in the country´s capital creates long queues which affect traffic conditions. They urge the government to focus on the most densely populated areas and strategically place a number of new gas stations across the capital and country.
