Jordan: Private companies to import diesel, ending fuel monopoly
Manaseer Oil & Gas will import diesel to the Jordanian market after signing agreement with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
The agreement grants the company permission to import diesel during a trial period of 6 months, after which they will be able to import other petroleum products.
"Manaseer Oil & Gas has a key role, in partnership with the public sector, to coordinate and arrange the import process with all the companies concerned, within the framework of liberalization of oil derivatives market strategy in the Kingdom in the upcoming period,” said said the General Manager Eng. Yasser Al-Manaseer.
The council of ministries has agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding, between the government and oil derivatives marketing companies, allowing private companies such as Manaseer or Total to buy diesel from international markets.
This legislative move has ended the monopoly that the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company (JPRC) enjoyed.
