Nigeria: Minister promises increase in fuel production to end scarcity

Nigeria's ongoing fuel scarcity could be over soon if the country's four refineries manage to produce an average of 10 million litres of petrol per day, has said the Minister of State for Petroleum.

After months of severe fuel shortage all across the African giant, the federal government has promised to increase the production levels at all four refineries, reported the The Sun.

During a visit to the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), Nigeria´s Minister of State for Petroleum Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu explained how the refineries would be repositioned to produce no less than 10 million litres a day.

According to Kachikwu, the increase of production at the refineries would also help to lift the burden of fuel subsidies from the population.

The federal governments has just slashed the price of petrol to N86 (USD 0.43), with the new rate implemented on January 1.
