Currently there are already 19 CNG stations in Nodia serving 35,000 to 40,000 customers every day.

The New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida) has started the process of issuing licenses.

District magistrate N P Singh said that a few CNG units will be set up at existing stations while some will be set up at new locations like frequently used Noida-Greater Noida expressway and Yamuna expressway.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) will be allowed to set up 10 units.  Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited will get permits to set up two stations each.

Residents consider the initiative as positive amidst the worsening air quality in the country.

"CNG is a cheap and environment-friendly fuel as compared to petrol and diesel. We have received several requests for conversion of petrol and diesel vehicles to CNG in the past one month," said Rachna Yaduvanshi, ARTO (administration) Noida.
