Norway to ban petroleum-powered cars by 2025

Norway's politicians have agreed to ban all fossil fuel-powered vehicles by 2025, according to reports from the country.

Last update:

Politicians from both sides have reportedly agreed future measures that will see all vehicles run on green energy by 2025. Just as other Scandinavian countries such as Sweden or Denmark, Norway is one of the most progressive states in the world in terms of sustainability and ecology.

Although the move is still not a done deal, two of the four main political parties have confirmed the reports. The Norwegian government, which is currently formed the four main parties, has also announced a new climate tax on electricity, reported The Independent.

The reports have already been welcomed by Elon Mus, chief executive of Tesla Motors, on Twitter: “Just heard that Norway will ban new sales of fuel cars in 2025. What an amazingly awesome country. You guys rock!!”

With Norway being one of world´s biggest oil and natural gas exporters, switching to a fully green energy-based system will have considerable effects on the country´s petroleum industry.
