Spain: Balearic Islands tourism boom brings no boost to gas stations
The tourism boom in the Balearic Islands does not result in more sales for the local service stations, said the Association of Service Stations in the Balearic Islands president Jesús Salas.
Salas explained, in an interview with mallorcadiario.com, that tourists come with a budget and spend a little on fuel.
Rent-a-car companies, he added, already have their own gas pumps so tourists drive a rented car with a full tank.
Competition is also stiff as five more service stations have recently opened, not to mention the weak price of fuel.
Salas reiterated that the reported “tourism saturation” in Balearic Islands, composed of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera, and other smaller islands, has not brought in profits for the retail fuel sector.
