US: True Zero reaches over 1 million miles with fuel cells

True Zero’s network of retail hydrogen stations set a milestone after having performed more than 6,300 vehicle fills totalling more than 15,900 kilograms of hydrogen, which translates to more than 1,000,000 zero-emission miles, according to a company release.

The achievement of the company, whose first charging station opened nine months ago, signifies the increase in the number of fuel-cell cars.

Carmakers such as Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, and Mercedes-Benz have continued to develop and expand their fuel-cell vehicle programs.

True Zero has also finished constructing 15 hydrogen stations throughout California and soon to expand in San Diego.

Joel Ewanick, founder and CEO of First Element Fuel, True Zero's parent, acknowledged the support extended by the public and private sector "this achievement was made possible by our funding partners and the overall vision and commitment of the State of California."

Funding partners of True Zero include the California Energy Commission, Toyota, Honda, the South Coast AQMD, and the Bay Area AQMD.

"We set out to show that a hydrogen-electric vehicle can be a true replacement for a gasoline engine, to be seamlessly driven throughout California with just four-minute stops to charge along the way," added Ewanick.
