The retail industry in the country, according to the association’s president Robindranath Naraynsingh, is in crisis which may put petrol dealers out of business by year’s end.  It continues to work with the government to address the situation.

Not all petrol stations are following the measure though.  National Petroleum (NP) acknowledged the association’s decision but will still accept cards at their gas pumps.

Unipet also respected the decision but has not made any policy decision regarding it. Motorists can still pay using their credit/debit cards at Unipet stations, and the company will find alternative cost-cutting measures that will not adversely affect the public, said Unipet's CEO Dexter Riley in an article published by looptt.com.
