California approves 7,500 EV charging station project

California will have the single-largest deployment of electric vehicle charging stations in the United States.

Last update:

The California Public Commission has given the green light to the installation of 7,500 charging stations in northern and central California over three years. Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), one of the biggest utilities in the U.S., will be in charge of the deployment.

With this initiative California edges closer to its goal of having 1.5 million EVs by 2025 and becoming the ‘green state’ of America, reports NRDC.

The new stations will add to the approximately 5,000 EV charging points to be deployed by Southern California Edison (SCE) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) over the next years.

According to the agreement, PG&E has to deploy at least 20% of charging stations at multi-unit dwellings and will aim to deploy at least half of all stations at such locations.
