Enoc opens first solar-powered gas station in the UAE

The United Arab Emirates has opened its first solar-powered gas station in Dubai as it veers into environmentally friendly alternatives.

Last update:

The Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) has launched its first gas station in the UAE powered by solar panels. The site uses photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of the canopy that produce a peak capacity power of 120kWh (kilowatt per hour), generating 30% more power than it is needed to run a petrol station, reports the Khaleej Times.

“With two service station openings already announced earlier this year, the launch the UAE's first solar powered service station demonstrates our efforts to become an environmentally responsible energy player,” said Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group CEO of ENOC.

The power excess from the new Enoc station near Dubai Internet City (DIC) will be transmitted back into Dubai´s electricity network for other purposes.

The DIC service station is a pilot site for a number of energy saving technologies such as Vapor Recovery systems and PV panels.
