UK government shows support for EVs and driverless cars
Theresa May's proposal of government in the Queen's Speech included a requirement of petrol stations to install charging points and support for driverless cars.
At the Queen´s Speech, hopeful Prime Minister Theresa May detailed how motorway service stations and major petrol stations will have to offer EV charging services to ensure the UK is a “world leader in new industries.”
The Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill also contains plans to push driverless car technology, which include the expansion of insurance to make sure they cover all forms of driving.
Official government research suggests that the market for automated vehicles in the UK will be worth £28 billion by 2035, reports the BBC.
The UK is the largest market for electric vehicles in the European Union, with one in five electric cars sold in the EU last year was made in the UK.
