Italy’s Faib: fuel distribution network illegal use to "laundry" money creates unfair competition

Martino Landi, the president of the Italian fuel retail operators association known as Faib for its Italian acronym, said that the police operations which have included several dozens of recent interventions of fuel distributors confirm what the association has long warned which is that the deregulation of the industry could bring anomalies which threaten competition.

Last update:

“For years we have said that the deregulation process of the industry has introduced an anomalous competition which offers prices out of line with the dynamics of a healthy and transparent market. Our category, in this context, is the main victim together with the State with an illegal system which is always emerging like the reports show,” Landi said.

“The facts confirm that not only should strict rules for the sector be respected but also controls should be intensified” in some cases, said Landi reflecting the position of the Federazione Autonoma Italiana Benzinai.

Landi’s comments were the organization’s official reaction following the latest police raids. which this time hit 47 fuel distributors. They were followed by several others previously.
