US Monday Memorial Day holiday sees weakest fuel prices since 2009

According to information provided by GasBuddy.com on May 18, the U.S. average price for a gallon of gasoline in the US was $2.74/gallon or nearly $1 less than a year earlier and the best price for drivers since at least 2009.

The Memorial Day holiday, celebrated this year May 25, is traditionally very important as it marks the beginning of the summer driving season which ends in September, GasBuddy reported. Gasoline consumption in the US increases sharply during the summer season.

Prices are lowest in the US Gulf Coast region, including Texas and Louisiana. The highest gasoline prices are in areas like California at $3.51/gallon.
