English Español Pemex and workers union begin negotiations for collective accord for 2015-2017

Mexican state oil company Pemex and its worker unions have started negotiations for their collective agreement to be in place for the next two years, according to information published on June 16.

Last update:

The accord with the Union of Oil Workers of the Mexican Republic (STPRM for its Spanish language acronym) that is being negotiated will become effective August 1.

Pemex general director Emilio Lozoya stressed that this accord will be the first since the constitutional refom approval to transform the structure of the Mexican oil and fuel system so the challenge is “to adjust labor relations to the new reality”.

Meantime Senator Carlos Romero, which represents the union, said that workers are ready to face the new challenge of starting to compete in a new market.

Pemex and its unionized workers have had a collective accord since 1942. It has been renegotiated about 34 times since then, according to Pemex.
