Pakistan's oil tankers end strike after fuel shortage havoc

The All Pakistan Oil Tanker Owners Association (APOTOA) called off the gas station strike on Tuesday after they came to an agreement with the government.

Last update:

Due to the strike, parts of the country suffered severe gasoline and diesel shortages, especially in the area of Karachi, with thousands of drivers facing dry pumps.

Operators protested after the government lowered the price of fuel by Rs 3 per litre ($0.03), which became effective on Tuesday.

Chairman of Petroleum and the CNG Association Shabir Sulemanji informed that 30% of gas stations in Karachi had run out of fuel because of the strike, with unleaded only available in 25% of all stations, according to the Daily Pakistan.

The long queues from desperate drivers triggered some gas stations to sell illegally for exorbitant prices, reaching 100 Rupees a litre ($0.97), while the official price of Premium is set at 73.76 Rupees.
