World’s first hydrogen car-sharing service to roll out in Germany

Multinational industrial gas firm Linde Group has launched a car-sharing service, which exclusively uses hydrogen-powered fuel-cell cars. The pioneering service called BeeZero will be offered in Munich, Germany by summer this year, according to a company release.

BeeZero offers a fleet of fifty Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell cars, which can be booked online or through a smartphone application.

Fuel-cell vehicles like these can travel more than 400 kilometers per hour allowing medium-distance journeys like trips to lakes or the mountains.

“BeeZero synergises two mobility trends that are gaining a lot of ground at the moment – car sharing and zero emissions – and will bring the benefits of fuel-cell technology to a wider group of potential users," said Dr. Christian Bruch, member of the Executive Board of Linde AG.

According to circularnews.org, Linde hopes that this program will not only make the access to hydrogen vehicles more affordable but also boost consumer demand, which will in turn contribute to the expansion of electric car infrastructure.

Germany only has 19 hydrogen filling stations, and Linde has committed in a cross-sector joint venture with companies such as Air Liquide, Daimler, OMV, Shell, and Total to increase the number of hydrogen facilities to 400 by 2023, wrote thestack.com.
