Spain: CEPSA and Carrefour’s renewed alliance to boost ‘Express’ expansion
Spanish energy company Compañía Española de Petróleos, S.A.U. (CEPSA) and French retailer Carrefour renewed an agreement that seeks to continue the expansion of Carrefour Express stores in CEPSA service stations in Spain.
CEPSA and Carrefour have successfully opened 175 stores together since 2013, and under the renewed agreement more outlets will be opened nationwide until 2018.
This year alone 80-85 stores are expected to be launched.
The successful partnership, which resulted in rapid store expansion, was a fruit of “confidence in the business model and the great team-work”, said Santiago Ruiz, Cepsa’s head of its service station network.
“The aim was to make the store the destination and that’s what we are seeing happen… The agreement lays down a long-term marker,” said Ignacio Cobo, head of Carrefour supermarkets for Spain.
