The fast chargers will be the latest addition to the Level 2 chargers already installed at 12 Ikea stores in Canada, according to a company release.

Ikea has committed in promoting sustainability and low-carbon transportation and has partnered with technology provider Sun Country Highway and Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

“As part of our commitment to sustainability and helping our customers live a more sustainable life at home and beyond, we’re proud to work with the province to increase the number of charging stations at our stores in Ontario,” said Stefan Sjöstrand, President of IKEA Canada.

The Ministry’s Electric Vehicle Chargers Ontario (EVCO) program, under the $20 million Green Investment Fund, is providing the funding for the EV chargers, an initiative that aims to expand EV network in Ontario installing nearly 500 charging stations at more than 250 locations by March 31, 2017.

“Faster charging stations available in greater numbers will help us achieve our mutual goals of a more sustainable and energy efficient Ontario,” said Steven Del Duca, Ontario Minister of Transportation.
