Shell Station in Flamstead, UK saves Costs with Dresser Wayne Xflo™ MeterEdinburgh, UK (November 05, 2008) –  After managing Shell stations for more than 20 years, Gary Hedges understands that it takes continuous improvement to keep up with the changes in this fast-paced industry. He recognized an opportunity for an upgrade at the Flamstead, UK Shell site where he has served as manager for the past eight years of his career.  The site distributes more than 12 million litres per year and is quickly growing.Challenge: Aging equipment and metering inaccuracyWith eight aging two-hose fuel dispensers and only diesel on one of them Gary Hedges needed more capacity to serve more customers. Plus, the site was losing between 0.3 and 0.5 percent volume to fuel metering inaccuracy - a phenomenon that retailers have long thought was simply an unavoidable cost of doing business. The Flamstead site has been a Dresser Wayne service customer for more than 10 years, so Hedges was already familiar with the company’s commitment to quality and excellent customer service. He decided to draw upon this relationship during his search for new dispensers to replace the previous equipment from another dispenser manufacturer. He recognized that Dresser Wayne could be the company to provide the right solutions. Solution: Dresser Wayne Global Star dispensers with vapour monitoring and the Xflo™ fuel meterAfter researching his options, Hedges decided to deploy Dresser Wayne’s Global Star dispensers with automatic vapour monitoring and recovery as well as Xflo fuel meters. The dispensers’ vapour monitoring capabilities not only ensure that vapours stay within mandated regulations and eliminate the need for weekly manual system checks, it also reduces maintenance costs as verification is only required every three year compared to manual systems where calibration is mandatory every year. The Xflo meter is another key advantage of Shell Flamstead’s new equipment. It features a break-through axial flow design that reduces the amount of friction on internal surfaces. The result is reduced wear and tear and more precise, consistent accuracy. Consequently, retailers can save significant costs. It dramatically reduces the fuel given away due to meter drift caused by inaccurate measuring. Plus, no future recalibration is to be expected so retailers also save on maintenance costs, and its high precision increases flow rates. The station can serve more customers in less time.Benefit: Lower costs, excellent qualityHedges has been pleased with the performance of the Dresser Wayne dispensers. Since the equipment was put into service approximately one year ago, the site has experienced no dispenser downtime. What’s more, the Flamstead Shell station is saving between £3,000 and £4,000 per month. “The pumps are reliable and the Xflo meter is extremely accurate,” Hedges describes. Since introducing the new Dresser Wayne Global Star dispensers, Hedges has also added prepayment capabilities. He reports that they have delivered consistent high performance. They are reliable, accurate and stop at the exact amount for which a customer wants to pay.Dresser Wayne has played a significant role in the growing success of this site. As a result of fuel dispensers that deliver dependable performance backed by Dresser Wayne’s service organization, Hedges knows that his site can handle the increasing demands of its growing customer base. Additionally, the money that Shell Flamstead is saving has improved profitability. “I did have the option of going with a cheaper product, but I am so pleased I chose Dresser Wayne,” Hedges says. “I have never seen fuel losses at such a low.”
