Advanced Biofuels Conference 2018

-
Gothenburg, Sweden

Last update:

New technologies are coming, new plants are being built – biofuels are taxiing for take-off!

There is an increasing international interest in governing the policy on biofuels. The EU will decide upon a new Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) until 2030. Countries are adopting national policies with mandating quotas to push for more biofuels. These are building blocks in the transition to a fossil fuel-free world. At the same time, several new biofuel technologies are becoming commercial and the wider market is taxiing for take-off, both for aviation, maritime and land transport sectors.

During 18-20 September 2018 the Swedish Bioenergy Association (Svebio) is organizing its 4th Advanced Biofuels Conference, in Gothenburg. The conference will start with study visits and is followed by two conference days.

There is plenty to see, hear and discuss. The Nordics are a hotbed of activity when it comes to advancing and implementing biofuels. Both Sweden and Finland reached over double the European Union (EU) 2020 renewable energy in transportation target, in 2015. HVO is a leading advanced biofuel in terms of commercial production capacity with Nordic companies behind the lion’s share of global production. Along with HVO100, Swedish motorists and fleet operators have already today a selection of bio-CNG, E85, ED95 as well as conventional 95-octane gasoline with up to 15 percent renewable components at filling stations.

Advancing sustainable advanced biofuels, regardless of feedstock or technology used, are vital in keeping global warming below 2°C. The transport sectors in aviation, maritime and on land benefit from biofuels bringing growth to a bioeconomy, adding security to supply, energy and cost. Sweden is a leading example with more than 20 percent biofuels in the transportation sector, on an energy basis.

This conference will highlight the latest projects and plants with leading international experts presenting an update on biofuel technologies and projects around the world. The Advanced Biofuels Conference is intended for those who are interested in creating a sustainable transport sector. Speakers and delegates will be policy makers and politicians, leading scientists, researchers, engineers, as well as executives and representatives from companies, organizations.
