English Español Tesla unveils new V3 supercharger

The new supercharger will allow drivers to do 75 miles of charge in 5 minutes.

Last update:

Tesla launched V3 Supercharging for Model 3 on Wednesday with the first station available. Some Tesla owners will have an early access program to the new Tesla fast-charging station.

The electric vehicle manufacturer has more than 12,000 Superchargers across North America, Europe, and Asia and the network continues to grow daily.

V3 is a completely new architecture for Supercharging. A new 1MW power cabinet with a similar design to the utility-scale products supports peak rates of up to 250kW per car.

At this rate, a Model 3 Long Range operating at peak efficiency can recover up to 75 miles of charge in 5 minutes and charge at rates of up to 1,000 miles per hour, according to Tesla.

They anticipate the typical charging time at a V3 Supercharger will drop to around 15 minutes.

Tesla plans to roll out the V3 Superchargers in North America in the second quarter of 2019, and to sites in Europe and China in the fourth quarter.
