English Español Germany: Burger King to open 100 new restaurants at Esso stations

U.S. fast-food chain Burger King will increase its presence along German petrol stations after signing a cooperation agreement with Esso.

Last update:

Petrol station operator EG Group has become a new franchisee of Burger King. Over the next five year there could be 100 new Burger King restaurants opening at Esso stations in Germany, reports Kieler Nachrichten.

Burger King has "enormous growth potential" in Germany, explained the company’s director, Carlos Baron.

The construction of the new stores is expected to begin in the second half of the year.

"A working group is currently investigating which filling stations are suitable for the test phase,” said Karoline Köster, spokeswoman for the EG Group.

The selected sites must have high traffic, enough space available for the offering and fulfil all the requirements stated in the catering law.

Last year, British fuel retailer EG Group acquired Esso’s 1,000 branded sites in Germany.
