The Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) will join the convenience revolution after five years of research as it plans to open convenience stores across its network of 5,200 gas stations, reports Inside Retail Asia.

“Petrolimex will expand into this sector, each store will host 1500 to 2000 products,” a Petrolimex representative said.

The strategy partner to the expansion into the convenience sector is JX Nippon Oil.

Vietnam’s petrol retail market currently has more than 14,000 petrol stations. Petrolimex owns 5,200 stations or about 45 percent of the total, followed by PVOil with 3,000 stations, Thanh Le (1,150 stations), and Saigon Petro (1,000 stations).
