English Español Croatia to deploy border-to-coast EV charging network

Once the projects are completed, Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) will roll out over 100 EV chargers along highways, announced the company.

Croatia’s Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) has finalised the installation of 16 EV chargers along highways, announced the company in a press release. The EV chargers will make possible for electric car drivers to go from the borders with Slovenia and Hungary to the Adriatic Sea, connecting Croatia with the EV charger network within the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

HEP’s EV chargers along highways aims at contributing to the further development of Croatia’s tourism sector by enabling a growing number of EV European drivers to travel to all tourism destinations in Croatia, according to the press release.

HEP plans in the short-term to install a total of 57 EV chargers along Croatian highways and other main roads. Once completed, HEP will have a network of over 100 EV chargers, including those already deployed in Croatian cities, said HEP Management Board President Frane Barbarić.

Of HEP’s first 16 EV chargers along highways, 12 have been installed in cooperation with oil company and fuel retailer INA. More than 30 electric car chargers in total are also to be installed along highways running to the Adriatic coast, as well as to the continental village of Lipovac, at INA’s filling station rest areas.

HEP’s EV development plans are part of the e-mobility project the company has launched in line with the EU directive on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure, which envisages the availability of EV chargers per 50 kilometers of highways, at cities with more than 20,000 residents, at all sea and river ports and airports, and at all railway stations in the next couple of years.

HEP’s EV charging infrastructure is being co-financed by EU funds - EAST-E and NEXT-E. Under these projects, HEP cooperates with partners from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, and Romania with the objective of developing a network of over 300 EV chargers to enable uninterrupted electric car driving through these central European countries.
