Spar Austria will serve as the exclusive forecourt store partner at Turmöl and BP service stations operated by Doppler, informed several Austrian outlets. The food store chain will also transform all 15 Nah & Frischpunkt forecourt stores into SPAR Express format.

“The extended cooperation between SPAR and Doppler, as well as the addition of 15 new stores, shows that our SPAR Express concept is in touch with the latest trends and that we clearly recognise the needs of our customers”, said SPAR Austria CEO Friedrich Poppmeier.

Additionally, the food retailer announced that it plans to expand its forecourt store portfolio in Asutria with the opening of two new outlets in Amstetten and Wels. SPAR operates in Austria 50 SPAR Express forecourt stores to date.

SPAR Express forecourt stores witnessed an over 10% increase in turnover in the first half of this year, according to the company.

“With this sales growth we are far ahead of local food market growth. These positive results have motivated us to extend our cooperation with Doppler, which started in 2009, becoming their exclusive forecourt store partner over the next decade”, added Poppmeier.

SPAR Austria and Doppler started working together in September 2009, with a first SPAR Express location in Salzburg. The retailer introduced a new shopfitting concept last year, which has since been adapted to four of its locations.
