No more e-cigarettes at Walmart

Walmart will stop selling e-cigarettes after the recent deaths related to vaping and U.S. government crackdown on the industry.

The world’s largest retailer will no longer sell e-cigarettes in its Walmart and Sam’s Club locations in the U.S. due to the regulatory complexity and uncertainty surround the sector, reports CNN.

“Given the growing federal, state and local regulatory complexity and uncertainty regarding e-cigarettes, we plan to discontinue the sale of electronic nicotine delivery products at all Walmart and Sam’s Club U.S. locations,” the company said in a statement. “We will complete our exit after selling through current inventory.”

The industry has come under fire as teen vaping rates in the U.S. soar to record highs and federal health officials sound alarms due to an outbreak of a mysterious vaping-related lung disease that’s killed at least eight people in recent weeks.

Walmart raised the tobacco buying age to 21 earlier this year in response to what regulators are calling an “epidemic” of teen vaping.
