The largest independent fuel operator in Spain, Ballenoil, has announced that it will open its first six service stations in Cantabria in 2020. The petrol stations will be located in Santander, Camargo, Castro Urdiales and Laredo.

The facilities will have a minimum of two fuel dispensers for each fuel station, and customer could choose between Diesel Excellent, Sin Plomo Excellent 95 and Diesel Excellent PLUS. In addition, petrol stations will have carwash centres.

The openings are part of the strategic plan of Ballenoil to reach the entire national territory by facilitating access to "a quality fuel at a lower price". Cantabria would thus be the eighth community in which Ballenoil operates, joining Catalonia, Valencia, Castilla y León, Castilla La Mancha, Andalusia, Madrid and Asturias.

Cantabria is one of the autonomous regions with the highest prices in Spain, according to Ballenoil. The irruption of Ballenoil in the region could mean savings of up to 10 cents on average per liter of fuel, as other gas stations will be forced to lower the price to compete with the new ones.

According to the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), a wider choice of fuel stations can mean savings of between 280 and 320 euros per year.
