Oil major Cepsa has announced the launch of a project to provide its service stations with solar panels to reach self-supply of electricity.

Cepsa has begun the pilot phase of this program with the installation of solar panels in three petrol stations in Spain, located in Marbella (Málaga), Arganda del Rey (Madrid) and Tenerife. The first to switch to solar panels will be the Marbella petrol station.

The solar panels will supply the service station during the day while the surplus will be sold back to the grid.

Cepsa states that its intention is to extend solar panels to the largest number of sites within its network of service stations, once it has verified their viability in the test phase.
