Ireland: Tesco transfers fuel network to DCC

Tesco Ireland has confirmed the transfer of its network of 22 filling stations to DCC Retail & Oil pending on approval.

Tesco Ireland has agreed to sell off its fuel business of 22 filling stations around the country to DCC’s Retail & Oil. The sites are mainly located in Dublin and throughout Leinster and Munster.

The supermarket’s Irish company announced in a statement that it has signed a deal to transfer the locations, subject to clearance by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission. “Tesco will transfer the operations of this business to DCC Retail & Oil and a phased basis, beginning in the first quarter of 2020,” a Tesco spokeperson said.

“All Tesco colleagues currently employed in the petrol filling stations will return to working in stores,” Tesco remarked in the statement.

The move shows DCC’s bolstering interest in the Irish retail fuel sector. DCC, which has businesses in eight European countries, also owns the Great Gas filling station network in Ireland, and has owned the fuel importer and distributor Emo Oil since the beginning of the 1990s.

Founded in Ireland in 1976 as a venture capital business, DCC Retail & Oil is a Europe-wide commercial and domestic retailer of fuel and oil, as well as operating in the LPG, technology and healthcare sectors. The company is present in eight countries.
