English Español Marathon Petroleum to close 450 Speedway-operated Dunkin’ Units

Dunkin’ and Speedway reach an agreement to close down 450 Dunkin’ units in 2020.

Last update:

Marathon Petroleum Corp. will close 450 Speedway-operated Dunkin’ units this year, Dunkin’ Brands said in its fourth-quarter 2019 earnings statement.

Dunkin’ has reached an agreement with Speedway to close the locations, which are primarily on the East Coast. These sites represented less than 0.5 percent of Dunkin' U.S. annual systemwide sales.

“We will be exiting 450 limited-menu Dunkin' Speedway owned and operated locations throughout 2020, closing under a termination agreement entered into with Speedway.  By exiting these sites, with minimal financial impact, we're confident we'll be better positioned to serve many of these trade areas in the coming years with new Dunkin' NextGen restaurants that offer a broader menu,” said Kate Jaspon, Dunkin' Brands Chief Financial Officer.

In the fourth quarter, Dunkin' Brands franchisees and licensees opened 146 net new restaurants globally. This included 76 net new Dunkin' U.S. locations, 62 Baskin-Robbins International locations, and 26 Dunkin' International locations, offset by net closures of 18 Baskin-Robbins U.S. locations.
