Amazon opened its first full-line cashierless grocery store in Seattle this week, according to media outlets. The new 10,000-square-foot Amazon Go location is four times bigger than the first cashierless location that opened to the public in January 2018.

The store will sell about 5,000 stocked items, including fresh produce, meats and alcohol. "We offer a mix of organic and conventional items from well-known brands, along with special finds and local favorites," a spokesperson said in a press release.

The new store in Seattle is a step up in its existing Amazon Go concept, as other locations are convenience stores in the center of major cities offering a mix of grab-and-go and snacks options for office workers.

“We’re not trying to be Whole Foods [which Amazon acquired in 2017]. We’re not trying to replace them,” vice president of Amazon’s physical retail division, Cameron Janes told CNBC.

"The new store offers another grocery option that's distinct from Whole Foods Market, which continues to grow and remain the leader in quality natural and organic food," a spokesperson for Amazon told to Business Insider.

Amazon Go Grocey will reportedly stock more mass-market products, as it aims to customers beyond Whole Foods shoppers. The ultimate goal is to compete with the likes of Walmart and Kroger.
