The European Commission will support the development of fifteen LNG and bioGNV refuelling stations, and one hydrogen station in Spain within the framework of the ECO-net project. Coordinated by Enagás, the ECO-net project aims to contribute to the decarbonisation of transport.

The €13 million investment in Spain involves the construction of 16 refuelling points throughout the country over the next three years. These stations will serve heavy-duty vehicles and cars, and will be located along Spain's main roads.

The ECO-net project, a Spanish network of alternative fuel refuelling stations, is part of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF Transport) programme, which aims to promote more sustainable and efficient transport options.

The initiative is in line with the European Directive for the development of alternative fuel infrastructure and the Spanish Action Plan for Alternative Energies in Transport.
In addition to funds from the European Commission, the ECO-net project benefits from a loan from the Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO) covering approximately 50% of the project, with Enagás contributing the remaining amount from its own budget.

The ECO-net project has obtained the support of different companies such as Toyota, a pioneer in the introduction of hydrogen vehicles on the market, and institutions such as the Spanish association GASNAM and the European project ECO-GATE.
