On-demand delivery startup DoorDash has announced the launch of DashMart, a new digital convenience store service, according to a company’s blog post. The move marks DoorDash’s foray into managing and delivering its own products inventory.

DashMart will offer around 2,000 household items, convenience and restaurant offerings. Warehouse associates will pick and pack the order, and then delivery workers Dashers will go collect the order and deliver it to the customers.

To start, DashMart will be available in eight cities across the United States including Chicago, Dallas and Phoenix, and plans to launch in additional cities like San Diego, or Baltimore over the next few months.

“Our mission is to connect customers to the best in their cities while helping businesses grow, and we hope to inspire even more local businesses—from restaurants and bakeries to artisanal shops and home goods retailers—to sell with us on DashMart," said Andrew Ladd, director, new verticals, in a statement.

The launching of DashMart comes a few months after DoorDash partnered with over 1,800 convenience stores in the US to serve customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
