Puma Energy confirmed plans to install solar power at up to 200 of its retail stations in Puerto Rico, announced the company in a press conference.

The goal is to reduce its carbon footprint through the installation of a clean energy source. To calculate the amount of carbon footprint the company will use a new net emission system in conjunction with the Electric Energy Authority (AEE) in Puerto Rico.

"These projects will have a lasting positive impact and generate significant amounts of clean energy. It is ideal that we can use our industry expertise and our sites to benefit communities across Puerto Rico in their desire to make a meaningful contribution to the fight against climate change using the power of the sun,” said Mario Sierra, Managing Director of Puma Energy Puerto Rico, as reported by El Vocero.

The 1,252 kW project at the Bayamon terminal will reduce carbon dioxide by 1,408 MT. The retail station projects will see approximately 20,500 photovoltaic (PV) panels installed across 200 sites. This will generate an estimated 30,000MWh of renewable electricity per annum and provide over 27,700MT in Greenhouse Gas savings.

“The Bayamón terminal demonstrates to Puma Energy's commercial and industrial customers that they too can benefit both financially and in terms of greenhouse gas savings by working with the company to install similar projects,” added the company in a press release.

This follows similar projects by Puma Energy in Ghana, Nicaragua y Honduras.
