Fuel retailer Neste opened this week Latvia’s first ever entirely self-service convenience store, according to the company. Located in Riga, the contactless Neste Easy Deli store is part of a five-location plan with a 500.000 euros investment, reports LSM.LV (Latvian Public Broadcasting).

Two stores will be located in Riga, Latvia’s capital, and one each in Salaspils, Ogre and Tīnūži, announced Neste. All locations will operate 24/7, and can be accessed using the Neste mobile app, which acts as an entry key.

The new Neste Easy Deli contactless self-service store in Rīga uses advanced RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology for enabling contactless self-service, which simultaneously scans all customer’s purchases, which can be paid for with a bank card.

“Last year, we saw a sudden change in personal shopping behavior due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, we also experienced a rapid evolution of technologies. These concept stores will offer the convenience of a new, fast, safe and simple shopping experience around the clock,” said SIA “Neste Latvija” Chairman of the Board, Armands Beiziķis, according to LSM.LV reporting.
