UNITI expo 2022, the leading European trade fair for the retail petroleum and carwash industry, successfully took place 17 – 19 May in Stuttgart, Germany. Over 16,000 attendees from 100 countries got together to share the latest ideas and innovations during three days. The modern Messe Stuttgart hosted 431 exhibitors from 37 countries, showcasing the most innovative products and services in the segments of fuels, convenience and carwash. The industry was thrilled to be back four years after the last edition. A comprehensive conference programme across three forums rounded off a brilliant UNITI expo 2022.

On Tuesday morning, visitors eagerly waited for the gates of UNITI expo 2022 to open. On the other side, 431 exhibitors representing all segments of the retail petroleum and carwash industries spread across 40,000 sqm of exhibition space. The feeling of expectation set the tone for the rest of the trade fair – industry professionals from all over the world delighted to discuss innovations and business opportunities in person.

"The atmosphere at UNITI expo 2022 was incredible!" said Elmar Kühn, Managing Director of UNITI Kraftstoff GmbH, organizer of UNITI expo. "It’s clear that exhibitors and visitors were eager to make the most of this international networking opportunity after the pandemic. In both, official interviews and private conversations, participants confirmed this view."

The whole industry in one place

Halls 1, 3 and 5 of Messe Stuttgart quickly filled with visitors on the first day, maintaining a strong volume for the three days. In Hall 1, attendees could explore the themes ‘Shop & convenience’ and ‘Oil companies & fuel retailers.’ Companies such as Lekkerland SE, Aral AG and Franke Coffee Systems presented new concepts. A highlight of Hall 1 was the Alternative Fuels Pavilion where national and international companies presented a wide range of energy options to power today, and tomorrow’s transport. These included hydrogen, eFuels, methanol, LNG and charging.

Supreme food & beverage concepts were presented at the Hack GENUSSGARTEN FOODCOURT. Visitors and exhibitors could enjoy a multitude of culinary concepts and take a break from the busy day. At the UNITI expo Forum, a number of exciting presentations on the future of the industry took place.

The ‘Car wash & car care’ area extended from Hall 1 to a large part of Hall 3. The industry’s leading players were all present for the most important show in their calendars. Rollovers, self-service machines, payment systems, hoovers, brushes, carwash chemicals and sustainable water treatment – visitors could find everything related to the professional carwash business.

The 'Technology, payment & logistics' area covered Hall 3 and the entire Hall 5. New types of fuel and digitalization were the main trends on show. International retailers could see the most innovative solutions for tanks, fuel logistics, payments, nozzles and station management. The themes of sustainability and digitalization also took centre stage at the Carwash Forum and the International Forum. In the sessions industry leaders explored best practices, challenges and opportunities in a dynamic market.

A moment to remember for all was the now famous UNITI expo Networking Party on Tuesday evening. Celebrated in the entrance of the exhibition centre, attendees could enjoy a great night of music, food and fireworks.

Despite the challenging context, visitors, exhibitors and organizers branded the event a total success. The UNITI expo team were happy with the level of attendance and the support shown by the industry.

"Taking into consideration the dramatic drop in visitors from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine as well as the lack of participants from COVID-19 restricted areas such as China and South Korea, we were able to maintain a similar number of international, high level visitors as in 2018. We even had significant increases from specific regions, such as Latin America," says Bruno Boroewitsch, Managing Director of com-a-tec GmbH, responsible for the organization and marketing of the fair.

Once again, and after a four year break enforced by the pandemic, UNITI expo managed to get the whole industry under one roof – a combination of the most innovative concepts together with international decision-makers that continues to push the industry forward.

The next UNITI expo takes place 14 – 16 May, 2024 in Stuttgart, Germany.
