Hanwha Cimarron, a subsidiary of the Korean company, will work alongside the energy company to build a hydrogen refuelling infrastructure in California.

Last update:

Shell has signed a new agreement with Hanwha Solutions for the development of a hydrogen refuelling infrastructure in California. Hanwha will help the oil company by supplying it with high-pressure hydrogen tanks for transport within its network of stations.

Hanwha Cimarron, the subsidiary manufacturer of Hanwha Solutions, has announced it has finalised a purchase order with Shell to provide the company with its Neptune high-pressure hydrogen tank. The carbon fibre-reinforced, 2,000-litre-capacity vessel can store hydrogen at a pressure of 517 bar.

"This supply contract is a great foundation for our collaboration with Shell and our efforts to expand our presence in the US hydrogen market. We are also expanding hydrogen tank business in Europe, including Germany, to attract more clients globally," said Ryoo Du-hyoung, Head of  Advanced Materials Division at Hanwha Solutions.

The state of California is emerging as a key hydrogen hub in the United States, with 52 out of 66 service stations in the country operating there. According to research firm MarketsandMarkets, the global hydrogen energy storage market is projected to reach 119.2 billion by 2027 and North America will constitute about 13 percent of the global market volume.
