English Español Japan: Cosmo Energy to power network with renewable electricity

The company has completed its plans to develop a sustainable fuel retail network ahead of its original plan of completing the switchover within three or five years.

Last update:

Cosmo Oil Marketing Co. announced a switch to electricity generated virtually entirely from renewable energy sources at a total of 603 service stations. The switch also reaches vehicle inspection stations directly operated across Japan by its wholly owned subsidiary, Cosmo Oil Sales Corporation.

Although the company originally announced in May 2021 that it aimed to undertake the switchover within three to five years, the plan was completed ahead of schedule in approximately one year. With this, all stations directly run by Cosmo Oil Sales are now essentially operated using electricity from renewable energy sources.

The switchover leveraged the collective assets of the Cosmo Energy Group while making use of the Cosmo Denki Business Green scheme. This service provides virtually CO2 emissions-free electricity from renewable energy sources endorsed by a non-fossil certificate with tracking information linked to wind energy generated by the Cosmo Eco Power Co. subsidiary.

Cosmo Denki Business Green is a service that helps businesses achieve virtually zero CO2 emissions by providing them with added environmental value in the form of non-fossil certificates and other designated renewable energy certificates.
