English Español RaceTrac to foray into South Carolina with two new sites

The retailer plans to establish two convenience stores in the city of Columbia with the aim to incorporate a fourth state in its operations.

Last update:

RaceTrac is reportedly in plans to establish two convenience stores as its first locations in the state of South Carolina. The retailer aims to open both locations in the city of Columbia with one of its two proposals already having initial approval by the Board of Zoning Appeals.

According to a report by local media outlet, The State, the company has submitted two proposals for construction. The first one is set to be built at the intersection of Garners Ferry and Fountain Lake roads, while the second one will be located at Shop Road and Pineview Drive.

Nevertheless, the news site clarifies that the Garners Ferry site was met with some resistance from the local authorities, due to the high commercial area already having numerous fuel retail sites.

The proposed new 8,000-square-foot store is set to be equipped with just under a dozen gas pumps, diesel and regular, according to a company representative quoted by the site. Shop Road’s RaceTrac is set to be a similar outlet offering diesel and regular pumps for customers.

RaceTrac adopted its name in 1976, when the 1934-founded Carl Bolch Trackside Stations relocated its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Since then, the firm has grown to operate a fuel retail network throughout Alabama, Florida and Georgia and claims to have pioneered self-service gas stations.
