English Español PetrolPlaza Podcast: How are suppliers preparing for hydrogen?

By 2030, fuel cell vehicle production could represent 2.5 million vehicles, of which 20% could be commercial trucks. With major public incentives coming from the U.S., Europe, Japan, China, South Korea and Australia, it is expected for the hydrogen mobility market to start to pick up pace. We spoke to three international suppliers – Dover Fueling Solutions, Hiperbaric and Hellonext – about their H2 solutions and their view of the market.

Lise-Lotte Nordholm

Lise-Lotte is the Vice President & General Manager for Clean Energy & Global Platforms of Dover Fueling Solutions. Based in Sweden, she has worked in the fuel equipment industry for over 15 years. DFS is a global supplier delivering advanced fuel dispensing equipment, electronic systems and payment, automatic tank gauging and wetstock management solutions.

“On the fuel dispenser side, we tried to leverage the experience we acquired from LIQAL with that of DFS. We have our first product going into the field within the next couple of months.”

“I think hydrogen is going to play a significant role. It’s getting a lot media attention as well as mandates and legislations to build these networks but it's still fairly slow moving. It's clear there's a big interest but it's going to take time to build that infrastructure. I think it's going to play a big role for heavy-duty transportation. Overtime, it will expand further but HDT is the reason to build stations right now.”

Alejandro Blanco

Alejandro is the Commercial Director of Hiperbaric. He is an industrial engineer and has been working in this company for over 10 years. Hiperbaric is the world's leading company focused on industrial equipment for High Pressure Technologies. The company, based in Spain, has offices around the world. It is specialized in renewable hydrogen compression technology at very high pressures for the decarbonization of mobility and industry.

"For us it was an easy move to come into hydrogen. We were always interested in new applications for high pressure, especially those that can help society to decarbonize and become more green. Our goal is to become the leader in piston pressure technology. We can compress the gas."

"We see the future as a mix of different technologies. The time of dispensing is very low for a hydrogen car compared to a BEV. For some applications, it has a good use case - mainly for trucks, buses, trains. For really heavy vehicles hydrogen could be a very good solutios."

Ricardo Esteves

Ricado is the Hydrogen Business Unit Manager of Hellonext. He has a strong background in the energy and gas sector having worked for Air Liquide for many years. He now leads the business development of hydrogen solutions at Hellonext. The Portuguese supplier provides sustainable energy and mobility solutions.

"We have three solutions for the hydrogen value chain. Solutions for power-to-mobility, power-to-gas and power-to-industry. We manufacture all those in house. The most important equipment for hydrogen refueling stations is the control unit - that is why we started with this product"

"The biggest challenge is safety. When you make a big transformation from liquid fuels to hydrogen, it's much more explosive. You don't see and smell it. Our main concern is to develop products that are 100% safe."
