English Español Mexico’s Baltico Group plans to open 20 ethanol stations in Mexico City

Mexico’s Baltico Group, which is a holding group that produces and markets biofuels, has plans to open 20 ethanol stations in Mexico City by 2016, according to a mid May report published by CNN Expansion.

The group is planning to start competing against Pemex next year selling a product mix it calls Oxifuel and which it claims is and will remain price competitive against gasoline. Grupo Baltico owns 20 stations in Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca and Hidalgo.

The ethanol is obtained from sugar cane, said the coordinator of Oxifuel, Victor Munoz. The company is currently producing 350,000 liters per day of the fuel.
